We have a strong commitment to community outreach, and our Community Oral Health activities are an important part of both our education and services mission. Outreach experiences introduce qualified third and fourth year dental students to life and dental practice in the greater Minnesota communities. By treating patients (under faculty supervision) in the variety of programs offered, students:
-
Develop a broad understanding of the community and social responsibilities they will have as dental professionals
-
Treat a diversity of patients with a variety of oral health care needs
-
Enhance their clinical skills
Our Community Outreach Programs not only provide students with a broad variety of learning environments, they bring dental healthcare to needy patients in a variety of underserved communities.
Fixed Site Clinics: Students treat patients at the Hibbing Community College Dental Clinic, Cummunity University Health Care Center (CUHCC Clinic) and Northpoint Health and Wellness Center.
Mobile Dental Unit: Students treat patients in a converted 37-foot Winnebago. This dental-office-on-wheels travels the state to provide preventative and restorative care to patients enrolled in the state's public health care programs. Mobile Dental Unit Video
On-site Clinics: Students and residents treat patients - more than 100,000 patient visits annually - in School of Dentistry clinics located on the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota.
