You may choose any of the following methods to register for courses:
- Register online via our secure website. (See web registration instructions)
- Mail in your registration form along with your check (payable to the University of Minnesota) or credit card information (VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover)
- Call us at (612) 625-1418 or (800) 685-1418 and use your credit card to register
- Fax your registration form and credit card information to us at (612) 624-8159
Applications for registration will be processed in the order received. For lecture and participation courses, the Office of Continuing Dental Education & Alumni Relations reserves the right to end registration when the enrollment limit has been reached. The registration fee must accompany the application. Please make your check(s) payable to the UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA. One check may cover several registrations. See refund policy.
Lecture and Participation Courses
Continuing Education Credits
Credit for each course will be based on hourly attendance (1 hour = 1 credit).
Dentists, laboratory technicians, dental therapists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and other dental professionals are eligible to attend, where indicated.
All registration fees include tuition, course materials, refreshments, luncheon (when applicable), and if requested, parking. Dentists and laboratory technicians must pay the full tuition as indicated by each course description.
Senior citizen dentists may attend lecture programs at a reduced rate. See individual course descriptions for the senior citizen tuition fees. Any dentist who is 65 or older may register as a senior citizen dentist. Dental hygienists, dental assistants, and dental business staff must pay the individual dental team member tuition as indicated by each course description.
The following applies for multiple registrations at designated lecture programs: all dentists and laboratory technicians - pay full fee; first dental hygienist, dental assistant or dental business staff - pays full dental hygienist, dental assistant, or dental business staff fee; second and each additional dental hygienist, dental assistant or dental business staff - pays reduced fee.
School of Dentistry Alumni Society members may receive a 10% discount for "lecture only" continuing education courses. (This discount applies to School of Dentistry Alumni Society members only and not their employees.)
Open Enrollment Policy
Qualified individuals with disabilities shall not be excluded from participating or be denied the benefits of any program, service or activity offered by the University of Minnesota Continuing Dental Education program. Please contact our office at least 2 weeks prior to the course date at (800)685-1418 or (612)625-1418 if you require special needs to participate in a continuing education program.

Independent Study Courses
Eligibility and credit
These independent study courses are offered to dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants. They have been approved by the Minnesota Board of Dentistry to fulfill continuing dental education requirements. The number of continuing education credits you will receive for completing a course is listed in each course description.
Courses that include audio-visual materials (x-ray packet, microfiche, CD-ROM, etc.) are rented for a three-week period. Please note that CD-ROMS are available for rental only to complete course requirements. Tuition does not include the purchase of the CD-ROM. CD-ROMS must be returned within three weeks of the date your receive the course materials. To avoid being billed for a late fee or the replacement cost of the audio-visual materials, you must return the audio-visual materials to our office no later than three weeks from the date you receive the course materials. Individual course descriptions indicate what portion of the package is yours to keep and also list the fee for course rental. Please allow two weeks for processing independent study courses.
If you need to complete credits for relicensure in less than 30 days, please read this section carefully. The following courses are generally available for immediate use: 1) Medical History Evaluation and Management—12 credits; and 2) Risk Management Through Recordkeeping—2 credits. Other independent study packages have a limited supply of materials but may also be available for immediate use depending on demand.
WE CANNOT GUARANTEE COURSE COMPLETION IF YOU ARE WITHIN 30 DAYS OF YOUR CREDIT DEADLINE. All independent study courses may be completed up to 4 weeks before a credit deadline. However, if you are within 2-4 weeks of your credit deadline, please be mindful that several courses included a post-test that will be mailed to you after course completion, and that credits will be submitted once we receive your completed post-test.
Please call the Office of Continuing Dental Education at (800) 685-1418 or (612) 625-1418 to ensure availability of package materials and to clarify the time limitations for your desired Independent Study course, in order to make sure you can meet your credit deadline.
If you have 2 weeks or less to complete your credits for relicensure, you may need to: 1) register over the phone, using a credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover); 2) make arrangements to pick up course materials at the Office of Continuing Dental Education; and 3) bring back the completed materials to our office. It is not possible to rely on mail services when deadlines are imminent. EXPRESS MAIL SERVICES ARE NOT AVAILABLE.
