Dr. Larson received his dental degree from the University of Minnesota in 1981, completed a GPR in the Air Force in 1982 and practiced general dentistry until 1985. He received his Certificate and Master’s degree in Orthodontics from the University of North Carolina in 1987. He spent 3 years as an orthodontist in the U.S. Air Force before joining the staff and faculty at the Mayo Clinic in 1990. At Mayo he served as Program Director in Orthodontics and received several “Teacher of the Year” awards. In 1996 Dr. Larson left Mayo for full-time private practice in Rochester, MN where he continues to practice 1 day a week. In 2004 he returned to full-time academics as Associate Professor and Director of Orthodontics at the University of Minnesota. He has written many scientific articles, contributed book chapters, and given many lectures in the US and abroad. He recently received the Distinguished Dental Alumnus Award from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Larson is a Past-President of the Minnesota Association of Orthodontists, the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists (MSO) and currently represents the MSO on the AAO Board of Trustees which will lead to becoming AAO President in 2018.
