Bio Statement

Joy Osborn is an Associate Professor in the Division of Dental Hygiene. Throughout her career, she has attempted to blend clinical, research and teaching skills to benefit both students and patients. Research interests have focused on ergonomics and topics in periodontology. She has authored/co-authored several publications related to carpal tunnel syndrome, musculoskeletal pain, median nerve impairment, periodontal therapy and assessment. Recently, clinical research has incorporated use of a Perioscope in assessing periodontal outcomes.

Ms. Osborn teaches in the undergraduate and graduate dental hygiene programs both clinically and didactically. Primary teaching responsibilities include preclinical dental hygiene, research methods, and clinical dental hygiene. Over the past three decades she has also taught numerous continuing education programs in the areas of clinical dental hygiene, ergonomics, local anesthesia, and periodontal instrumentation. She has been invited to present many lectures and courses to various dental and dental hygiene groups on these and related topics both locally and nationally.

Service activities involve all levels of university life: division, department, School of Dentistry, and the University at-large. She also maintains involvement in several state and national dental and dental hygiene professional organizations. She continues clinical practice in the Faculty Practice Clinic, School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota.
