Dr. Rohrer is Professor and Director of the Hard Tissue Research Laboratory, School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota.

Dr. Rohrer has authored/co-authored over 85 publications, book chapters and instructional programs in the area of oral and maxillofacial pathology. Since spending his first sabbatical leave in 1986 with Prof. Dr. Dr. Karl Donath at the University of Hamburg, Germany, Dr. Rohrer's research interests have primarily been in the histologic and histomorphometric evaluation of bone, bone implants, bone grafting materials, and bone enhancing strategies. He brought the Donath/EXAKT technique of non-decalcified histotechnology to the Western Hemisphere in 1987.

Dr. Rohrer is a sought-after lecturer in the area of clinical oral and maxillofacial pathology. He received the Most Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Award presented by the graduating class of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry for the most outstanding classroom instructor of their four years in dental school in 1983, 1985, 1986, and 1997.
