Bio Statement

Nelson L, Rhodus, DMD, MPH, is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Division of Oral Medicine, Oral Diagnosis and Radiology in the Department of Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences in the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine, and Director of the Oral Medicine and Xerostomia Clinics. He is an attending member of the Hospital Staff of Fairview-University Medical Center and the Minnesota Cancer Center, and a consultant to the Veteran's Hospital and Hennepin Co. Medical Center.

Dr. Rhodus directs several Physical Evaluation and Introduction to Oral Pathology courses. He has been awarded "Faculty of the Year " for thirteen consecutive years and is a recipient of the School of Dentistry Century Club Professor of the Year. He is active in basic and clinical research with oral manifestations of systemic disease and chronic degenerative autoimmune diseases. He serves on the national medical advisory board of the National Sjogren's Syndrome Association. He has received numerous research grants and is a member of the Minnesota Dental Research Institute and the International Association for Dental Research.

Dr. Rhodus has presented over two hundred lectures and courses throughout the United States and abroad. He has published over one hundred seventy scientific papers and abstracts and has been the recipient of the "Outstanding Clinician Award" five times from three different state dental associations, Kentucky (1979), Oklahoma (1985), and Minnesota (1987, 1988, 1989). He is a recipient of the Morse Distinguished Professor Award, the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award, the American Academy of Oral Medicine's Meritorious Service Award, the University of Kentucky Distinguished Alumnus Award, the American Cancer Society's Meritorious Service Award, and is an inductee into Omicron Kappa Upsilon and is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, and Men of Achievement, Cambridge, England.

Dr. Rhodus enjoys running marathons, triathlons, tennis, golf, skiing, fishing and basketball.
