Brief Biographical Data:

Dr. Bakdash is a Professor and Director, Division of Periodontology, Department of Developmental and Surgical Sciences in the School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota.

Dr. Bakdash has authored/co-authored over 100 publications, instructional and digital programs in the areas of periodontics, public health, preventive dentistry, dental education and information technology.

He served as the President of the Minnesota Section, American Association for Dental Research, the Minnesota Association of Periodontists, and the Beta Beta Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Publication Committee's Chair, member of the Task Force to Develop an Outcome Assessment Program, for the American Academy of Periodontology, the Chair of the Informatics Section, American Dental Education Association, the President of the Minneapolis District Dental Society, the American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs, the Committee on International Development, and the Gold Medal Selection Committee.

Among awards and honors that Dr. Bakdash has received are: the Distinguished Teaching Award from UCLA, School of Dentistry in 1972, the Outstanding Lecturer Award from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1976 and 1983, Fellowship in the International College of Dentists in 1982, Fellowship in the American College of Dentists in 1985, fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy in 2002, the first recipient of the American Dental Association¿s Periodontal Health Award in 1984, the University of Minnesota Century Club Professor of the Year in 1986, the American Academy of Periodontology Clinical Research Award in Periodontology in 1988, the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center Recognition of Excellence Award in 2001, and 2002, the Past President Award in recognition of devoted services to the dental profession as the 2003 president of the Minneapolis District Dental Society in 2003 and the American Academy of Periodontology Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics Award in 2005, the 2008 Certificate of Appreciation for Being a Great Teacher from the Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Minnesota, and the 2008 Guest of Honor, in recognition of valuable contributions to dentistry and the community, Minneapolis District Dental Society, 2008.

At the present time, Dr. Bakdash is continue to provide leading roles at the University of Minnesota including serving as the Chair of the Academic Health Center Promotion and Tenure Committee, member of the committee for Comprehensive Review of Deans, and having membership on the Public Relation Committee of the Minnesota Dental Association, and the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Dental Association Foundation. Dr. Bakdash is also continues to serve on the editorial review boards of a number of national and international dental journals.
