ACTIVE

1U01 DE14338, Michalowicz (PI)
9/30/02 - 8/31/05
NIH/NIDCR
Project Title: Effects of Periodontal Therapy on Preterm Birth
The major goal of this clinical trial is to determine if dental treatment of women with periodontitis can affect the incidence of preterm birth.
Role: Principal Investigator

COMPLETED

Biomimetics Pharmaceuticals, James E. Hinrichs (PI)
5/8/02 - 1/15/03
Clinical trial to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of TCP Plus for the treatment of periodontal bone defects. The goals of this project were to determine the safety and effectiveness of TCP Plus in the treatment of intrabony periodontal defects.
Role: Investigator

P30 DE09737, Michalowicz (PI)
8/1/97 - 7/31/99
NIH/NIDCR
Project Title: Genetic Contributions to Risk Factors in Adult Periodontitis
Pilot Project in NIH/NIDCR Oral Health Clinical Research Center Grant, Pihlstrom, BL (PI)
The major goal of this pilot project was to investigate, using the affected sib pair design, if there are genetic markers associated with chronic (adult) periodontitis.
Role: Principal Investigator

CollaGenex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Michalowicz (Co-PI)
3/30/98 - 4/30/99
Project Title: A 9-month multi-center, double-blind, placebo-controlled, clinical trial evaluating the effect of Periostat® bid in conjunction with scaling and root planning versus placebo bid in conjunction with scaling and root planning on attachment level and pocket depth in patients with adult periodontitis.
The major goal of this project was to determine if a host-modulating agent provided an adjunctive benefit to scaling and root planing in the treatment of moderate to advanced periodontitis.
Role: Co-Principal Investigator
