Karlind Moller, PhD is Director and Coordinator of the Cleft Lip and Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies Clinics. Dr. Moller is a Professor in the Department of Preventive Sciences at the School of Dentistry and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences (Department of Communication Disorders) and has served as director and coordinator for over 25 years. He is a member of several professional associations, has served as president of the Minnesota Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Chair of the Minnesota Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation, member of the Executive Council of the American Cleft Palate, Craniofacial Association Board member of the Cleft Palate Foundation, and chaired the Publications Committee of the foundation. He has held editorial consultantships to a variety of dental, speech and hearing and interdisciplinary journals and publications. Dr. Moller has received several awards and grants for his research, teaching and professional service. He is a fellow in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, honorary member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Society, honorary member of the International College of Dentists, received the Outstanding Clinical Achievement Award and Honors of the Association from the Minnesota Speech-Language-Hearing Association. He has published over 100 articles, abstracts, book chapters and authored two books pertaining to interdisciplinary cleft lip and palate management. In addition, Dr. Moller has made over 120 presentations as an invited speaker to local, national, and international meetings and conferences.

Dr. Moller has been on the faculty of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry since 1970. Following completion of his PhD in Communication Disorders, Dr. Moller was awarded a Special Research Fellowship from the National Institute of Dental Research and was appointed Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1975 and became Director of the Cleft Palate Program in 1977. He was promoted to Professor in 1982 and was named co-Director of the Craniofacial/Skull Base Surgery Center in the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center in 1992. Dr. Moller's career passions include teaching and mentoring students, dental specialty residents and graduate students in speech-language pathology and audiology about interdisciplinary care for patients with cleft palate and other craniofacial disorders, relationships among dental and oral conditions and speech performance and the effects of intra-oral appliances and speech prostheses on speech, increasing the knowledge base through collaborative research and providing optimal service to patients and families.

Dr. Moller has also participated in surgical missions to developing countries as a speech-language pathologist and is a strong advocate for interdisciplinary care for persons with cleft lip, palate and other craniofacial disorders.
