The School of Dentistry Welcomes Dr. Alex Fok


Dr. Alex Fok has accepted an invitation to serve as the School of Dentistry’s Director of the Minnesota Dental Research Center for Biomaterials and Biomechanics (MDRCBB), effective January 1, 2008. He will, however, be here starting September 10, 2007, spending time getting acquainted with the school, its departments and divisions, and the possibilities for collaborative efforts on areas of mutual interest.

Dr. Fok received his BEng and Ph.D. from the University of Manchester and an MSc in Mathematics, Modeling and Numerical Analysis from the University of Oxford. He was, most recently a senior lecturer in engineering at the University of Manchester’s School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering. He is an educator with 13 years of teaching and mentoring experience, a funded researcher with a total of $3.6 million in grants awarded, and an accomplished author whose credits include book chapters on dental biomaterials: imaging, testing & modeling. His research interests are in the design of mechanical tests for engineering materials, the evaluation and optimization of dental restorations and the statistical analysis of brittle failure.
