Associate Dean for Research Announced

svenThe University of Minnesota School of Dentistry is pleased to announce that Sven Ulrik-Gorr, Ph.D. has been named Associate Dean for Research and Professor in the Department of Diagnostic and Biological Sciences. Dr. Gorr’s appointment is effective March 1, 2009.
 

Dr. Gorr is a graduate of the University of Copenhagen with a doctorate in biochemistry.  He served for 16 years as an educator and dental researcher at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, most recently as professor in the Oral Health and Systemic Disease Research Group where he directed the Laboratory for Mucosal Cell Biology and was special assistant to the associate dean for research and enterprise.  Dr. Gorr is a NIH-funded investigator with research interests and experience in cell biology of secretory mechanisms, antibacterial peptides, and Sjögren’s syndrome.   His current investigation of the host-defense properties of salivary proteins recently led to a U.S. patent application.  An experienced program director at the Applied and Translational Research Program of the Center for Biotechnology and Innovation at the National Institute of Craniofacial Research (2004-05), he is also a reviewer for NIH study sections and special emphasis panels, and has published more than 50 papers and book chapters on a variety of topics related to his research.
