Structural renovation of the 7th floor Center for Contemporary Dentistry (Patterson Clinic) was completed in May; equipment installation will continue throughout the first part of the summer and the clinic will be ready for student use in September. The clinic footprint was expanded, creating additional space to increase the number of operatories from two to five. The expansion allows for a productive faculty-student ratio of 1:5 and 1-2 week rotations for senior dental and dental hygiene students.
Patterson Dental is equipping the clinic with state-of-the-art digital radiography, electronic patient records, computer-based patient education materials, CAD/CAM units, and more. Touch screen controls, a family of integrated instruments, and state-of-the-art sterilization systems will improve performance, safety and comfort for both student dentists and patients. Dental students will complete their Dental Auxiliary Utilization (DAU) experience in the clinic. Recruitment efforts are underway to identify a community dentist to serve as clinic director; two part-time faculty will also be hired to teach in the clinic.
