Give Kids a Smile Day 2009

Give Kids a Smile Day (GKAS) is a day when students, staff and faculty around the country provide free oral health care services to low-income children across the country. Give Kids a Smile is the an annual, national event created to provide free dental care to low-income children and highlight dental access challenges of uninsured and underinsured patients.

Last year, nearly 200 children and their families visited Moos Tower for free dental care from more than 180 student volunteers and about 50 faculty and staff. Students will take the lead in organizing the event, help in registration, serve as patient escorts throughout all stops in treatment, and treat patients. In addition to treatment, the young patients received oral health education instruction. Parents and guardians were advised about services provided, received recommendations for follow-up on untreated needs and were provided with information about how to contact the school for continuous care.

This year's Give Kids a Smile Day will occur on Saturday, February 7, 2009.
