Give Kids a Smile Day 2007

Give Kids a Smile Day (GKAS) is a day when students, staff and faculty around the country provide free oral health care services to low-income children across the country. Last year, 215 children and their families visited Moos Tower for free dental care from volunteer dental and dental hygiene students, residents, staff and faculty. Students will take the lead in organizing the event, help in registration, serve as patient escorts throughout all stops in treatment, and treat patients.

Hibbing Community College (HCC) Dental Clinic hosted its Give Kids a Smile Day event on February 23rd. On-hand to provide services were four dental students and two dental hygiene students, who paired with 28 dental assisting students from the HCC Dental Assisting Program and one area dentist, HCC faculty and staff to treat 39 patients. Services included exams, prophies, fluoride treatments, oral health instruction (and one stainless steel crown).

Participating dental students were Jethe Abraham, Kenneth Anderson, Jonathan Falkowski, and Kristine Tunes. Dental hygiene students were Karen Yorks and Danielle Riley. A special thank you to HCC Dental Clinic staff Kay Ryan, Jill Mann, Georgia Belanger and Drs. Sonal Koratkar, Robert Lew and Jerry Pedersen, and to HCC college staff from the dental assisting program.
