The Minnesota Craniofacial Research Training Program (MinnCResT) kicked-off another year of guest seminars on August 1st, with a presentation by Richard Cannon, Ph.D., (Department of Developmental of Oral Sciences at the University of Otago in New Zealand) who spoke on “Oral Colonization by Candida albicans and Fungal Drug Resistance.” He also participated in a roundtable discussion with MinnCResT fellows and SOD summer research students. In September, MinnCResT will welcome Elaine A. Ostrander, PhD., head of the Comparative Genetics Section and Chief of the Cancer Genetics Branch at the National Human Genome Research Institute at NIH. On September 18the she will present “Genetic Mapping of Complex Traits in the Domestic Dog.” Her seminar will summarize current approaches to finding genes controlling simple and complex traits, discuss how knowledge of canine population structure can facilitate mapping studies, and review recent findings regarding genetics of morphology in the dog. The seminar is open to everyone.
