Celebrating a job well done and a bright future

This year marked the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry’s 121st commencement ceremony. On May 14, more than 1,000 students, faculty, friends and alumni were on-hand to celebrate 160 new graduates. Student speakers included Megan D. Dingfelder, Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene, class of 2010, and Megan L. Mulligan, Doctor of Dental Surgery, class of 2010. The commencement address was offered by Linda C. Niessen, vice president and chief clinical officer for Dentsply International.

Dr. Niessen spoke on the subjects of leadership, knowledge, passion, caring, ethics, and professionalism, noting that all of these qualities are required of dental professionals and quoting Margaret Mead, who said that “a small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
