Nelson Rhodus, School of Dentistry, was interviewed May 21 on WCCO-Radio regarding his induction into the Academy of Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, the highest recognition of excellence given by the Academic Health Center.

The School of Dentistry was mentioned in a West Central Tribune article about the Rice Regional Dental Clinic in Willmar, a joint venture between Rice Memorial Hospital and the School of Dentistry.

The West Central Tribune (March 24) reported that Rice Regional Dental Clinic is seeing 28-30 patients a day and is called a “Godsend” by an area public health nurse who refers patients to the clinic.
The Hibbing Community College Dental Clinic was on the front page of the Hibbing Daily Tribune (February 24) in an article about “Give Kids a Smile Day.”

The School of Dentistry and the Medical School were mentioned in an ABCNewspapers.com article regarding the Robinow Syndrome Foundation convention that took place June 25-29th; it is a joint effort of the schools, The Mayo Clinic, and The Robinow Syndrome Foundation. Robinow syndrome is a rare genetic dwarfing syndrome.

Nathan Lund, fourth year dental student, and Patrick Lloyd were quoted in stories on KTTC-TV in Rochester, Minnesota Public Radio, ADA News, the Minnesota Daily, The Duluth News Tribune, the Pioneer Press, and on the home pages of the Academic Health Center, School of Dentistry, and University of Minnesota websites, about Lund’s role in rescuing victims of the 35W bridge collapse, for which he was awarded the U.S. Army Soldier’s Medal. The story was also mentioned on KARE-TV and KSTP-TV.

Patrick Lloyd (Administration) authored an article “Capitalizing on Educational Technologies: A Shift from Teaching to Learning” that will appear in the September issue of Dental Economics. An article titled “Aging Mouths” was distributed to statewide media outlets as part of the AHC series of articles, Health Talk and U. And an article about Dean Lloyd’s presentation at the Espertise™ Global Symposium in St. Paul on “New Dimensions of Learning: Digital Technologies in Dental Education” appeared in the June, 2008 issue of the 3M ESPE magazine Espertise™ .

Nelson Rhodus (Oral Medicine/Diagnosis) was interviewed on WCCO-Radio about his induction into the Academy of Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Rhodus was also quoted in an article about an oral cancer study that analyzes biomarkers in saliva. The article about the research led by Timothy Griffin, (Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Biophysics) appeared in the Spring ‘08 issue of ”M”, a University publication for alumni and friends.

The new Rice Regional Dental Clinic in Willmar was featured prominently in an “M” magazine story, Spring issue. The article included a sidebar description of the other six school outreach sites SOD Outreach Director Paul Schulz and D4 student Shawn Spoden were interviewed. Read article.
