MinnCResT (Minnesota Craniofacial Research Training Program) receives a $5.3 million renewal award
MinnCResT (Minnesota Craniofacial Research Training Program) received a $5.3 million renewal award from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). The five-year award allows the program to continue supporting post-doctoral fellows and DDS/PhD students training to be the next generation of dental, craniofacial and oral health research scientists. MinnCResT trainees pursue novel interdisciplinary research that is fundamental to biology and human health and expands the frontier and scope of dental, craniofacial and oral health. The NIDCR grant currently supports 11 post-doctoral Fellows, five pre-doctoral Fellows, and two DDS/PhD Fellows. Learn more at www.mncrest.umn.edu.
MinnCResT Annual Summer Symposium and Dinner
MinnCResT also held its annual summer symposium and dinner on June 16th at the Campus Club. Program Director Mark Herzberg and Dean Patrick Lloyd offered opening remarks and Richard Ellen, distinguished scientist and former chair of periodontology at the University of Toronto, was the guest speaker, presenting “Knowledge Transfer: Translating Basic Scientific Findings to Benefit Health.” Also featured were poster presentations and discussions by MinnCResT fellows and awards to dental student researchers. Joel Rudney, interim director of research and director of the School of Dentistry Summer Research Program since 2005, presented awards to: James Jenders and Heather Horton (Hinman Research Conference award); Alice Huang (Crawford award); Tracy Grossman, Claire Mielke, and Lam Tu (Outstanding Research Award); Matt Larson (National Dental Student Conference on Research award); and Robert Chalgren (Dentsply award).
