Mobile Dental Clinic Turns 10

Mobile Dental Clinic

University of Minnesota School of Dentistry Dean Leon A. Assael emceed a celebration on November 6 commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the Mobile Dental Clinic. The clinic was launched in 2002 as a partnership between the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and UCare, an independent, nonprofit health plan.

The Mobile Dental Clinic provides preventive and primary dental care to UCare members in underserved areas throughout the state. All dental services are provided by School of Dentistry staff and dental, dental hygiene and dental therapy students, who care for patients under the supervision of faculty dentists.

Dean Assael hosted the program at the McNamara Alumni Center on the East Bank campus. Speakers included School of Dentistry Outreach Director Paul Schulz, fourth-year dental students Kylee Ferris and Brock Tidstrom, who shared their experiences treating patients aboard the Mobile Dental Clinic, and UCare Chief Executive Officer Nancy Feldman.
