Orthodontics Residents Travel to the American Association of Orthodontics Annual Meeting
A unique endowment funded the May travel of 12 orthodontic residents to the 107th annual meeting of the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) in Seattle. Minnesota is one of only a few dental schools with an endowment specifically for orthodontic residents. Created in 1998 with support from program alumni, the Orthodontic Resident’s Endowment fund provides U-M orthodontic residents the opportunity to enrich their education and underscores the importance of maintaining professional and educational connections beyond graduation. In addition to funding residents’ travel and hotel expenses for the AAO Annual Session, the fund also covers expenses related to travel to two other professional meetings. In all, residents attend five meetings during their time in the graduate orthodontic program. The endowment has also funded the purchase of the first computer designated exclusively for the orthodontic residents and assisted with the purchase in 2001 of the Dolphin Imaging system and with the complete renovation of the residents’ study areas in 2006.
