The June 26th meeting of the Minnesota Board of Dentistry featured a national discussion about regional board examinations. The day-long meeting drew national representation from all four U.S. regional testing agencies and the National Dental Examining Board of Canada. Drs. Lloyd, Buchanan and Hirsch plus senior dental class officers attended to advocate on behalf of student interests for continued acceptance of the examination administered by the Western Regional Examining Board (WREB).
The Board of Dentistry voted to recognize three regional examinations (ADLEX, SRTA and WREB) and the Canadian examination for another year, until August 1, 2007. After that date, only the following three options will be accepted to qualify a candidate for licensure in Minnesota: 1) the ADLEX exam; 2) the WREB exam plus Part I and Part III of the ADLEX exams; or 3) the Canadian examination.
The School of Dentistry will offer the integrated format of the ADLEX exam this academic year, beginning with the mannequin portion on September 23, 2006. The clinical portion will be offered on February 17, 2007. Students are responsible for scheduling and taking the 6.5 hour computer-based portion of the exam at a designated examination site. Issues to be resolved for School of Dentistry students are procedures for re-taking any failed portions, and timeliness of results reporting.
Representatives of the Class of 2007 have expressed appreciation for the effort invested in the process on their behalf.
- 9th floor clinics will be closed on July 24 and 25 to accommodate the Central Regional Dental Testing Services (CRDTS) exams.
