Patient Care

At the University of Minnesota Dental Clinics we provide general and specialty dental care in association with the School of Dentistry's educational programs. Each year, there are more than 100,000 patient visits in the dental clinics which are located in Moos Health Sciences Tower on the East Bank of the Minneapolis East Bank Campus. The following summarizes the variety of treatment choices available.

Predoctoral Student Clinic
All treatment in the predoctoral student clinic is provided by students under faculty supervision. Patient selection is based upon the educational needs and resources of the School of Dentistry.  Patient Information Brochure

Dental Hygiene Clinic
Dental hygiene students provide teeth cleaning under faculty supervision to current patients, U of M students and other individuals depending on dental health needs.

Post-graduate Training Programs
The School of Dentistry has training programs in the certified specialties of endodontics ("root canal" treatment), oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics (treatment of gingival disorders, i.e. "gum disease"), and prosthodontics (replacement of missing teeth with fixed and/or removable prosthesis, including implants). Additional programs address TMJ disorders, facial pain, cleft palate and craniofacial anomalies.

Faculty Practice
The School of Dentistry also houses a faculty dental practice which serves patients who choose to be treated by School of Dentistry faculty members.

Special Services
Through a variety of clinics, patients have access to specialized care for conditions including TMD/TMJ, orofacial pain, cleft palate, ectodermal dysplasia and Xerostomia.

Teledentistry
Individuals who want to see a School of Dentistry specialist without traveling to the Twin Cities can do so through teledentistry at the Hibbing Community Dental Clinic.

Research Opportunities
U of M researchers are continually seeking voluntary participants.  Many times the participants are reimbursed for their efforts.  More about research opportunities
