Bachelor of Dental Hygiene/Master of Dental Therapy

A one-of-a-kind program

Starting Fall of 2016, the Master of Dental Therapy Program evolved into the Bachelor of Dental Hygiene/Master of Dental Therapy dual degree program. The admissions cycle for Fall 2017 opens September of 2016 and closes January of 2017.

Demand for Dual Licensure

A dual licensed dental hygienist/therapist is becoming in demand, especially in greater Minnesota. The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry’s dental therapy program has been working to address growing concerns regarding access to care and oral health care disparities in the state since 2009. Starting fall of 2016, dental therapy evolves into a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene/Master of Dental Therapy dual degree program to better meet the needs of oral health care providers and patients in the State. Students are eligible to apply to the dual-licensed dental hygienist/therapist program after completing 1 year of prerequisite coursework. The program is year round, 32 months or about 3 years. This program reduces the educational cost to students and also reduces the length of time to earn both degrees from 6 to 4 ½ years. Dual-licensed hygienists/therapists provide flexibility in meeting the preventative and restorative needs of patients.
