Rotation Goals and Objectives
  • Oncology Fellow Rotation on Radiation Therapy Service

    Led by Dr. Chung Lee MD, the objectives for this rotation will be:

    1. To observe patients at all stages through the radiation therapy process from initial consultation, initial simulation, through the course of radiation therapy and necessary follow-up care to become more sensitive to the requirements for these patients.
    2. To become familiar with the equipment and protocols utilized for radiation therapy including proton beam, intensity modulated radiation therapy and brachytherapy.
    3. To become familiar with patient responses to radiation therapy including physical and psychological responses.
    4. To become familiar with the measures taken to minimize complications and side effects from radiation therapy.
  • Oncology Fellow Rotation on Medical Oncology Service

    Led by Dr. Priya Kumar MD, the objectives for this rotation will be:

    1. To observe patients in all stages of treatment with head and neck tumors by the medical oncologists from initial evaluation, treatment planning through chemotherapy and management of complications associated with multimodality treatment
    2. To become familiar with the inpatient medical oncology service and protocols used for patient care
    3. To become familiar with patient response to induction, postoperative and palliative chemotherapy.
    4. To become familiar with the range of complications associated with chemotherapy in the head and neck cancer patient
  • Oncology Fellow Rotation on the Oral Pathology Service

    Led by Dr. Michael Rohrer DDS, MS, the objectives for the oral pathology rotation will be:

    1. To review the principles involved in preparing a pathology specimen.
    2. Review of the histopathologic features diagnostic of oral and maxillofacial pathology, both benign and malignant.
    3. A review of the molecular pathology diagnostic techniques.
  • Oncology Fellow Rotation on the Otorhinolaryngology

    Led by Dr. David Hamlar DDS MD, the objectives for this rotation will be:

    1. To augment clinical experience in head and neck surgery
    2. To augment clinical experience microvascular free flap surgery harvest techniques.
  • Oncology Fellow Rotation on the Plastic Surgery Service

    Led by Dr. Umar Choudry MD, the objective for this rotation will be:

    1. Augment clinical experience in local, regional and microvascular flaps for reconstructive surgery
  • Oncology Fellow Rotation of Speech and Language Pathology

    Led by Jason Helling, the objective for this rotation will be:

    1. Augment the clinical knowledge related to speech and language function after head and neck surgery.
