About the Program

Want to know what it’s like to be a dental student?

Spend a weekend in the shoes of a dental student receiving instruction from dental school professors and completing exercises learned in dental school. You will have a great opportunity to use the DentSim units which are the most advanced simulation interactive multimedia learning environment for dental training and practice.

On Friday afternoon, you will enjoy presentations in the fields of restorative dentistry and prosthodontics in addition to a tour of the dental school facilities by senior dental students. During the tour, you will be able to ask the dental student tour guides about applying to dental school, dental school curriculum, and career options in dentistry.

The Saturday session will be divided between learning operative procedures in the advanced simulation clinic and making and pouring impressions in the simulation clinic/wet lab. A freshman dental student will be our guest speaker over the lunch hour to provide insight on how to prepare for applying to dental school and taking the DAT as well as what to expect as you begin dental school. Recognizing dental terminology and understanding biological and mechanical concepts are reinforced throughout the course.

The Sunday session will be divided between performing a gold crown preparation in the advanced simulation clinic and learning dental anatomy to create wax carvings, trimming stone casts, and fabricating bleaching trays in the simulation clinic/wet lab. The evening will conclude by presenting you with your certificate of completion.

The course will provide you with 20 hours of dental and manual dexterity experiences valuable on your dental school applications.

The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry

The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry is located on a Big Ten campus in the heart of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. We are the state’s only dental school and the only dental school in the northern tier of states between Wisconsin and the Pacific Northwest.

In 2007, our pre-clinical lab was transformed into an $11.5 million state-of-the-art teaching center featuring 108 patient simulation stations and 20 advanced simulators with virtual reality-based computer software.

Students treat patients on four floors of campus clinics in Moos Tower that feature 377 spacious operatories. In addition, our community outreach programs are an integral part of our educational and service missions.
