Financial Aid

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid offers students financial assistance, including student employment and financial advising. Applications should be filed as soon after January 1 as possible. Students should apply for financial aid at the time they are applying for admission. Most aid is awarded on the basis of financial need and the availability of funds. For more information, contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, University of Minnesota, 210 Fraser Hall, 106 Pleasant Street S.E., Minneapolis, MN 55455 (612/624-1665 or, toll-free, 1-800-400-UOFM).

The Student Employment Center posts job vacancies and refers qualified students for interviews for a variety of jobs on and off campus. The center is located in 120 Fraser Hall (612/624-8070).

Financial Aid Eligibility
Student's pursuing the first Bachelor's degree have a very broad eligibility for Financial Aid. We call these "Undergraduate" students.

Student's who have completed a Bachelor's degree, and are now pursuing another (different) Bachelor's degree have "limited" eligibility for Financial Aid (no federal Pell, or State Grant). We call these "2nd undergraduate" students.

Students who have completed a Bachelor's degree, and are not in a new degree program but are taking "pre-requisites" to be admitted to a graduate/professional program are considered, upon request by the student, for very limited financial aid for a limited time period (just federal direct loans). We call these "prerequisite students" and in the system they are coded as "non-degree" students.

Students who have completed a Bachelor's degree and are now pursuing an additional "major" to the same degree are not eligible for any financial aid. We call these "Non-degree" students.

Student's who have completed a Bachelor's degree, and are now admitted into a graduate and/or professional degree program are eligible for financial aid in the form of loans and work study. We call these "Grad/Prof" students.
