Summer Dental Experience - a pre-dental program supporting students from underserved communities

The Summer Dental Experience seeks out undergraduate students who have grown up in underserved rural and minority communities, those from economically challenged families, and those who are first in their families to have attended college. The program offers 20 incoming college sophomores and juniors an opportunity that focuses on understanding the dental profession, learning more about dental school applications and the DAT, and charting undergraduate coursework toward acceptance into dental school.

Summer Research Fellowship program - a mentored research experience

For incoming and current dental students, the Summer Research Fellowship Program offers the opportunity to do research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Over a 10-week period in the summer, students undertake a structured research program; first time research fellows attend a weekly training seminar. The following spring, summer fellows have the opportunity to prepare a written report and a poster for presentation at local and regional student research meetings. In some cases, students have the opportunity to attend national meetings including the American Association for Dental Research. Stipends are provided in the form of financial aid.

Minnesota Craniofacial Research Training (MinnCResT) Program - a D.D.S./Ph.D. program

The Minnesota Craniofacial Research Training Program (MinnCrest) supports qualifying students who wish to complete a joint DDS/PhD degree through our Dentist-Scientist Training Program. MinnCrest is supported by a major grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). The program brings together cross-disciplinary teams of trainees and mentors from such fields as biology, neuroscience, microbiology, genetics, immunology, engineering, psychology, dentistry, medicine, and other disciplines that contribute to its research training mission. MinnCrest fellows frequently have the opportunity to present their research at local, regional and national meetings.
