Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee
The goal of the School of Dentistry Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is to leverage the current diversity in the dental school to create and sustain an environment that values and fosters diversity in teaching, research and community engagement.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee serves as a venue for gathering data and channeling feedback to the appropriate parties within the School of Dentistry and the University, and developing recommendations and prioritizing of actions to improve the climate at the School of Dentistry.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee was created in 2012 as an ad hoc committee under the auspices of the Dean’s office with the goal of creating and sustaining an environment that values diversity in its purpose, peoples and programs. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee was tasked with the following responsibilities:
- To assess and to further the School of Dentistry’s progress in recruiting and retaining diverse faculty, staff and students
- To develop strategies to improve the School of Dentistry’s cultural climate
- To improve the quality and quantity of the discussion and education on issues of equity and diversity in the School of Dentistry
- To serve as a resource on issues of equity and diversity for the School of Dentistry
