National Search for Dean

School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota

The University of Minnesota is conducting a national search for a new dean of the School of Dentistry. Executive Vice President and Provost Karen Hanson named a search committee in early 2019. The position profile is posted on this page. The schedule anticipates recruitment of candidates to take place during late spring and summer 2019, with the aim of bringing finalists to campus for public interviews in fall 2019. The national search firm of Isaacson, Miller has been engaged to assist the search committee in the recruitment and screening of candidates.

Public Interviews

Provost Hanson has announced that four finalists have been invited to campus for public interviews. Names and CVs will be posted a day ahead of each candidate's visit. Candidates will meet with multiple constituencies over each two-day visit and participate in a public forum. The visits will include interview sessions with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders of the School.

Public Forums

All are invited to meet and talk with candidates at their respective public forums. Each forum will include a brief presentation by the candidate on the role of a School of Dentistry in a 21st-century land grant research university, as well as open Q&A, followed by an informal reception. All forums will take place in Best Buy Theatre, Northrop (4th floor)

  • Candidate 1, Tues., Sept. 24, 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Candidate 2, Fri., Sept. 27, 2–3:30 p.m.
  • Candidate 3, Fri., Oct. 4, 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Candidate 4, Tues., Oct. 15, 2-3:30 p.m.

A video link will be posted following each forum (UMN log-in access only) so that members of the School community who were unable to attend can view each candidate’s presentation for a limited period and complete an evaluation.
