Summary

Dr. Bakdash is Professor Emeritus, Division of Periodontology, Department of Developmental and Surgical Sciences, School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota.

Dr. Bakdash joined the University of Minnesota as a Full-time faculty member in 1974. Over the years, Dr. Bakdash held a number of academic faculty positions in the School of Dentistry (1974-2018), and School of Public Health (1981-1985, and 1988-1992). He also served in the School of Dentistry as the professor and Director of the Division of Periodontology (1988-2013), Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (2012-2015), and Director (2013-2018) of Program for Advanced Standing Students (UMN PASS).

Dr. Bakdash has authored/co-authored over 100 articles, abstracts, textbook chapters, symposia proceedings, instructional, web-based, and digital programs in the areas of periodontics, public health, preventive dentistry, dental education and information technology.

He served as the President of the Minnesota Section, American Association for Dental Research, the Minnesota Association of Periodontists, and the Minnesota Beta Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Publication Committee’s Chair, member of the Task Force to Develop an Outcome Assessment Program, for the American Academy of Periodontology, the Chair of the Informatics Section, American Dental Education Association, the President of the Minneapolis District Dental Society, the American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs, the Committee on International Development, and the Gold Medal Selection Committee. Most recently, Dr. Bakdash served as the Secretary, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Dental Foundation.
