Summary

Dr. Wendy St. Peter is a Professor with the Department of Pharmaceutical Care and Health Systems, University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. St. Peter received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Texas (UT) Health Science Center at San Antonio and UT Austin, where she also completed a fellowship in adult medicine in 1988. She received Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy in 1991. Dr. St. Peter served as a nephrology clinical practitioner from 1988 to 1996 at Hennepin County Medical Center, providing active consultation services in the medication management of dialysis patients in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Dr. St. Peter is also a co-investigator with the United States Renal Data System and conducts pharmacoepidemiology research in chronic kidney disease patients using Medicare and other large patient databases. St. Peter has served as technical expert panel member for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on medication-related issues and works with the National Kidney Foundation on policy issues affecting chronic kidney disease patients.

In 1996 St. Peter accepted a new position at the College as the Associate Dean of Professional Education. In her role as Associate Dean she managed the Office of Student Services and provided over site of the traditional PharmD program. In January 2000, St. Peter stepped down from the Associate Dean's position to more fully pursue her research interests in nephrology and to focus on pharmacoepidemiologic research using large commercial claims datasets as well as the Medicare 5% dataset, Medicare end-stage renal disease and Medicare Part D databases. She conducted and helped design the secondary study of the large prospective Dialysis Clinical Outcomes Revisited (DCOR) trial, linking trial data with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data to determine additional clinical outcomes and economic costs. Currently, St. Peter's research is focused on effectiveness and safety of medications in chronic kidney disease patients as well as effectiveness of pharmacists within new healthcare models on CKD patient outcomes.
