Summary

Dr. Bereiter received his doctorate degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in physiology with specialization in neurophysiology and postdoctoral training in neuroendocrinology at the University of Geneva, Switzerland with Professor Jeanrenaud. He joined Brown Medical School faculty as an Assistant Professor in 1983 and was promoted to full Professor in Surgery and Neuroscience in 1995.

The research interests of his laboratory focus on peripheral and central mechanisms of craniofacial pain with particular emphasis on ocular pain and pain referred to the temporomandibular joint region. Since many craniofacial pain conditions are more prevalent in women than men, additional interests include the roles of sex hormones and psychophysical stress on craniofacial pain. Current research effort is supported by extramural funds from the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research and the National Eye Institute.
