Individualized Instruction in Hospital Dentistry
Would you like to enhance the scope of your practice while adding challenge and stimulation to your professional career? Do you need to receive training before you can obtain hospital privileges?
You are invited to spend two days at the University of Minnesota Physicians Dental Clinic obtaining the knowledge and skills to treat patients in the hospital setting under general anesthesia. School of Dentistry faculty who routinely provide same-day surgery dental services at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital will give you one-on-one instruction in: 1) patient selection—adult patients, 2) risk assessment, 3) preoperative evaluations, 4) hospital records and protocol, 5) gowning procedures, 6) sterile technique, 7) discharge criteria and procedures, 8) reimbursement, and 9) obtaining hospital privileges. You will also benefit from the opportunity to observe actual operating room dental cases.
Learn How To
- Identify patients who would benefit from dental treatment under general anesthesia in a hospital setting
- Conduct a preoperative physical evaluation of the patient
- Perform dental procedures within the operating room
- Document dental services in the in-patient chart
- Identify procedures for patient admission and patient discharge
- Provide consultation to other hospital services
- Apply for hospital privileges
Lectures, case discussion and observation of the delivery of dental services in the operating room.
Meet the Expert
Mark A. Roettger, DDS, Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of Comprehensive Care, Department of Primary Dental Care, University of Minnesota School of Dentistry; private practitioner, Stillwater, Minnesota. Dr. Roettger is an attending faculty in the University of Minnesota General Practice Residency (GPR) program, which includes supervising GPR residents in the operating room and during their cancer and transplant clinic rotations.
