Students establish new student group, lead cultural celebration
University of MInnesota School of Dentistry students established a new student group and also hosted a culture celebration this fall.
- A new student group, the Society of American Indian Dentists (SAID) – University of Minnesota School of Dentistry Chapter, launched January 2019. SAID was founded in 1990 by George Blue Spruce, the first American Indian dentist in the U.S. To-date, the School of Dentistry has enrolled or graduated 14 American Indian or Native Alaskan students. Graduates are currently working in Indian Health Service clinics in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
- ASDA (American Student Dental Association) and SNDA (Student National Dental Association) celebrated the variety of cultures represented in our student body by hosting a fashion show on November 8, 2018 in Moos Tower. Students showed off the national special-occasion dress and attire worn in about 20 countries and cultural customs were described as each student walked down the red ramp. ASDA and SNDA hope to hold the fashion show annually.
