A three-time graduate of the University of Minnesota, Johnson is an alumna of the School of Dentistry GDA, BS and Master’s degree programs in dental hygiene.
Jorge Perdigão, DMD, MS, PhD, was named the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry's 2015 Century Club Professor of the Year on April 29, 2015. The award is the school’s highest honor and is presented annually to one faculty member in recognition of outstanding service as a teacher and for significant contributions to the education, research and service mission of the school. Dr. Louis B. Sullivan, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, visited the School of Dentistry on April 14 to meet with dental therapy students and educators and tour the school's team care clinic. The visit followed his testimony on April 13 before the North Dakota interim Health Services Committee about the importance of dental care and overall health, dentist workforce shortages in that state, and the licensure of dental therapists to enhance patient access to care.
The William J. Gies Foundation has named the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities, and the Minnesota Board of Dentistry, as recipients of the 2016 ADEAGies Award for Vision by a Public or Private Partner, in recognition of their combined efforts to develop dental therapy education in Minnesota.
University of Minnesota School of Dentistry Professor Mark Herzberg, D.D.S., Ph.D. will receive the 2016 William J. Gies Award for Vision, Innovation and Achievement (The Gies Award). Presented annually by the American Dental Education Association Gies Foundation, the Gies Awards are the profession’s preeminent recognition of exceptional contributions that exemplify the highest standards in oral health and dental education, research and service.
University of Minnesota School of Dentistry second-year student Aaron Henderson was recently elected vice president of the American Student Dental Association. Henderson previously served as ASDA district trustee, chapter publications co-chair, and chapter licensure chair. Additionally he served as student district delegate to the Minnesota Dental Association's House of Delegates in September 2015 and was, for two years, his class representative to the association's New Dentist Committee.
The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry's Minnesota Dental Research Center for Biomaterials and Biomechanics (MDRCBB) was featured on NPR's Marketplace on February 15.
The University of Minnesota Dental Clinics have earned the service industry's coveted Angie's List Super Service Award, reflecting an exemplary year of service provided to members of the local services marketplace and consumer review site in 2015. The award marks the fourth time Angie's List honored the University of Minnesota Dental Clinics in the last five years.
