The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry welcomed Dumas Ting, CEO of China-based Golden Meditech Insurance Group, to the University of Minnesota Pediatric Dental Clinic, Made Possible by Delta Dental of Minnesota on February 9. Ting was in Minneapolis to learn more about the clinic operations and the public-private partnership between the University and Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation that helped launch the clinic in 2012.
The Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation awarded a one-year $100,000 (renewal) grant to the Native American Community Clinic (NACC) Dental Clinic to increase access to oral health care for Native American children in the clinic's service area.
Rice Health Foundation (RHF) raised $218,000 to support the Rice Regional Dental Clinic in Willmar. Launched in 2007, the clinic serves patients from 17 rural counties and is staffed year-round by University of MInnesota School of Dentistry students and residents. To date, some 640 dental, dental therapy and dental hygiene students, along with 23 pediatric dentistry residents, have completed rotations at the clinic and provided care for more than 13,000 patients.
The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry Dental Therapy Class of 2016 celebrated at the Campus Club on December 8, 2016. The banquet was attended by 110 students, guests, faculty and staff.
Emily Strawhacker was the recepient of the Karl D. Self Student Acheivement Award. She was given the award by Ms. Karen Bohnen, a 2014 Dental Therapy graduate and the DT representative on the School of Dentistry Alumni Board.

The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry’s Minnesota Dental Resource Center for Biomaterials and Biomechanics (MDRCBB) celebrated its 25th anniversary with colleagues from around the world on October 17-18, 2016.
Gary C. Anderson, DDS, MS, a tenured faculty member in the Department of Developmental and Surgical Sciences, Division of Pediatric Dentistry, has been named interim dean of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, effective November 21, 2016. His appointment follows the departure of Leon Assael, DMD, who retired from his position as dean in August. Anderson currently directs the School of Dentistry’s Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies Clinic.
University President Eric W. Kaler and Mrs. Karen Kaler were among the more than 500 fairgoers who stopped by the School of Dentistry's booth at the Minnesota State Fair on August 26. The exhibit featured activities that promote the school's patient clinics and research expertise, and advance awareness of oral health as an integral component of health and wellbeing.
