The ADEAGies Foundation has named the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, along with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU) and the Minnesota Board of Dentistry, as recipients of its prestigious 2016 Gies Award for Outstanding Vision by a Public or Private Partner for their efforts to advance dental therapy education in Minnesota. The Foundation also named School of Dentistry Professor Mark Herzberg, D.D.S., Ph.D., as the 2016 recipient of the Gies Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Dental Educator.
The School of Dentistry received a $70,000 grant from the ADEA Dental Education Association Minority Dental Faculty Development (MDFD) program to address oral health disparities in vulnerable children and communities.
The School of Dentistry celebrated its fourth soon-to-be graduating class of dental therapy students on December 4 with its annual banquet at the Campus Club.
Dental leaders, legislators, policymakers and dental access coalition leaders visited the Native American Community Clinic Dental Clinic to learn more about Minnesota's dental therapists.
