Dr. Ernest Martin III has worked as a part-time faculty member for the School of Dentistry for more than 30 years while maintaining his own private practice.
“I always look forward to my time in clinic each week,” said Martin, who works with students in the dental clinic. “When I was working full time, it was a refreshing way to break up the week. The students are smart, receptive, engaging and fun. And they have certainly made me a better dentist.”
Amber Irby arrived in Minnesota from her hometown of Williamsburg, Virginia, two years ago to enter the unique dental therapy program at the University of Minnesota. Today, she plans to stay.

University of Minnesota School of Dentistry bicyclists and volunteers turned out in force Saturday, August 11, to raise funds to support cancer research at the Masonic Cancer Center. The August 10-12 Chainbreaker bike-a-thon rallied more than 1,000 riders from throughout the University and community, including 78 from the School of Dentistry who rode in two pelotons/teams – Lytic Cycles and School of Dentistry – with each rider completing 25, 50, 100 or 180-mile routes. The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry held its 129th Commencement Ceremony in Northrop Memorial Auditorium on May 11. Included among the graduates were 115 new doctors of dental surgery, 36 recipients of advanced education degrees (master and PhD) and/or certificates, 7 dental therapists who received master's degrees, and 33 dental hygienists (27 who received a bachelor of science degree and 6 who earned a master of dental hygiene degree).
Jennifer Enich and Andy Aldrich, second year dental students at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, were recently awarded Dr. Michael Till – Northern Minnesota Dental Scholarships. Jennifer is the daughter of Dr. Steve and Tonya Enich of Side Lake and Andy is the son of Gary Aldrich of Hibbing.
